Tips, Tricks and Techniques

Necessity is the mother of invention. How true that is. Over the years I have tried whatever I needed to try to get the job done. Sometimes it was things I found on the internet and sometimes it was things I just tried because I just NEEDED something to get the job done. Here are some of my tips, tricks and techniques I have discovered on my own or through the wonderful world of the internet.

Get permanent marker off a dry erase (white) board...

There are several ways to do this. I tried quiet a few before I found the one that works the best. Hand sanitizer. That's right. Good old fashioned hand sanitizer gel squirted onto a paper towel will get permanent marker off a dry erase board. After using that, wipe it really good and you will be good as new. I know this works because we had a little girl draw stick figures and practice her name with a Bic's Mark It Permanent marker and I was able to get every bit of it off our white board.

Prevent spillage and splatter when heating food in a microwave...

Hubby discovered this quite by chance. He was heating some spaghetti with lots of sauce on it in the microwave. Anybody who has ever done that knows how bad it can splatter. We always cover the bowl with a napkin or paper towel and they always blow off as the turntable goes around and around. One day, he decides to place a clean coffee filter on top of the bowl like you would place it in a coffee pot basket. Then he gently pressed it down a little so it would stay in place. It worked perfectly. Now I keep coffee filters on top of my microwave for that very purpose. No more messy microwave to clean every time it is used.

Crocheted Dish Clothes for a multitude of uses...

My sister loves to crochet beautiful dishcloths. I have her make them in colors to match various rooms (kitchen, bath, utility room). That way, after they are washed I know what the use is so I'm not washing dishes with the ones I use to clean the washer and dryer, etc. When I bake, I always keep a wet one laying beside me. I am notorious for getting flour and cocoa everywhere. This makes for a quick wipe up and it allows me to have some to wipe my hands on. I also have some I use with my 409 to wipe down refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove, etc. Having them in the various colors matched the room I use them in.

Removing the temporary tatoos...
Cutex Nail Polish Remover Pads, Non-Acetone
Do you children ever go to a birthday party and get a temporary "tatoo". They wear off after awhile, but for those of you who want them off faster, nail polish wipes are perfect. Just wash the tattoo with soap and water. Dry it off really good then gently wipe away at it with the nail polish remover pads. After it is all off, wash again to get the left over remover off. Then rub some lotion on. I use the ones that are non-acetone for gentle skin.

Stains on your shoes or purse...

This doesn't work on all material of shoes or purses, but it will for most cases. I keep baby wipes handy at all times for those spills or splashes that I get on my shoes or purses. It is a very gentle cleanser, yet very effective. Just rub at the spot with a baby wipe and it will usually come clean.

Hope these ideas help you.
