I love little surprises...

When I came home this evening, it was pouring the rain. I wanted to just take a long soak and curl up on the couch with a good book and warm blanket. But I had to run back out for VBS. My driveway was like a river going through it. 

I haven't planted any flowers out in front of the porch yet this year. Apparently it is a good thing. Looks like we need to do some gutter work before planting any flowers out front yet. Especially if we keep getting this torrential downpours. 

Even though it was raining really hard, I decided I would stop and get out to check the mail. I am so glad I did. I had a nice package from my sister. She knows I am on a pink and blue Pyrex kick. She made me some new dish clothes in those colors.  

I rolled them up and put them with a couple others I had. I placed them all in my Town and Country Cinderella bowl. That way, they are handy when I need one for wipe ups and spills when baking. 

She made me a Pyrex angel to watch over my collection. She is a real beauty.

I love it. It now holds a prized place on the baker rack and goes very well with my blues and pinks.

A few of my favorite things...

I have certain things around the house that I collect that are vintage. They always bring a smile to my face. I thought it would be fun to share some of my vintage yard sale/thrift store finds with you today. Some I bought myself and some were gifts. This is my only piece of Gooseberry. I love the small little blue and pink pieces. 

I recently found this Town and Country pattern. I fell in love with it. I'm looking for more pieces to go with this pattern.

A funny photo shoot

I mentioned my daughter had an idea for VBS to do some photo shoots with lips, hats, and mustaches. She wondered the grounds last night after doing the photos of the kids. The teens were happy to participate and we even had a few of the adults willing to get in on the action. A picture IS worth a 1,000 words. Check these out. 

And my personal favorite of the night goes to Ms. Lindsey and Mr. Tyler for being willing to switch things around a bit. 

Some junk about June

This is useless information about June, but you never know when you might need to be made aware of these things. 

The traditional birthstone for June is the pearl. It is a symbol of purity and is the only gem that comes from living sea creatures.

June is named for the Roman goddess Juno. The month of June is a popular month for weddings, perhaps because Juno was the goddess of marriage.

The flower for the month of June is the rose. Roses are a symbol of love and appreciation. They are also known as the flower of passion.

June is Dairy Month which is appropriate since ice cream is a great summer treat. It is also Candy Month (isn't every month?). It is National Adopt a Cat Month and National Accordion Month.

There are a lot of crazy individual days that are celebrated for a lot of various and sometimes silly reasons. But for me, June is SUMMER! Let the good times begin.

Sunday Morning Song

Some neat finds yesterday....

I came home from work yesterday and my hubby had brought home a milk crate and organized the top of the freezer which is beside the washer/dryer. I asked him if he could get more (they came from his work). It turns out they get products in them and the supplier does not want them back. He has instructions to bring me more tomorrow. These are going to be great to organize closet shelves and crafts. He says he has them in several colors as well. He has specific instructions on this and I even left a note with his keys so he doesn't forget. I need to check to see if our supply closet at Sunday School could use a few. 

I stopped at a yard sale yesterday and found this cute little creamer pitcher. I don't really collect miniature pitchers, but it turns out this is my third one I've bought so maybe I do collect them after all. For .25 cents I couldn't pass it up. The lady said it was an antique but I don't know. I just know I fell in love with it. 

Growing up, Mom had a couple of these vases and I remember her changing the flowers in them every season. I see them in antique stores sometimes for $12-$15. I always want one for nostalgia sake but not at that price. Yesterday, this one was setting on the yard sale table for just a quarter. Oh, yeah. It came home with me. 

As a matter of fact, I had some flowers that hubby had decorated my Easter basket with over 20 years ago. I have used some of them over the years and the basket is being used for something else, but I never could part with the flowers for sentimental reasons. So now the vintage vase holds some of the flowers he got me years ago. I love the look of them on my little shelf in my office.

I found this little tray for just $1.00. I have this great idea for my table on the front porch. You'll have to wait and see what I'm doing with it, but I think it will be really cute.

It will also come in handy on Patriotic holidays. The inside bottom is just adorable. 

Our Vacation Bible School starts at church Sunday night. It's the Colossal Coaster World so everything is with a carnival theme. I am helping with carnival games for the 2-5 year olds. My daughter had a great idea to do a photo shoot on one night and print the pics the next day so the kids can take them home at the end of the week with all their crafts. She had me make some photo props. I'm not done yet, but here are a few. Thanks to Accent the Party for the free printables. Here's just a few of what the kids can choose from.

I mentioned the photo shoot to a dear friend of mine who helps out at VBS as well. She is very talented and crafty. She had the lemonade stand that she had made last year for a photo shoot with her kids.

Next thing I know, it is redecorated as a ticket booth. It's now on loan to VBS for our photo shoot this week. The kids are going to love it. She is so talented and I am so thankful for all her hard work in helping out with this.
